IWGB:EWB What the f**k has it got to do with me?
If your in the electrical trade EVERYTHING!
Unions first began back in the 17th century but were legalised in 1824 in a time where working conditions were absolutely dire for factory workers who sought change. In our lifetime unions were powerful back in the 70’s and 80’s with people such as famous actor Ricky Tomlinson leading the line before he found fame in acting. Now days you could be forgiven for thinking unions are a total waste of time, especially if you do a little digging around the biggest unions. Corruption, lack of help when needed, no real change achieved, these are all things people have come to believe because of a real lack of change within the electrical industry over the last 10 years.
If we re-wind to 2012 and the BESNA agreement we can see what happens when electricians unite to achieve change. What happened? Where did it all go so wrong for the industry? We were strong, united and affecting change (not me personally as I only starting my training in 2012 but you get the drift) and now we bicker, crucify simple questions on social media platforms and are generally arseholes! BESNA has come into effective through the back door with more and more unqualified sparks being expected to carry out work as a cheaper option especially with containment. IT SHOULD NOT BE LIKE THIS!!!
Now back to the question at hand, what has it got to do with YOU! If you want real change, more money, better working conditions, protection against being knocked, fair treatment and a brotherhood then you need to jump aboard and support the EWB. We are different from the current unions, we care about our members and our industry because we work alongside you in it. Everyone in the EWB is working in the industry and we will never change that. It brings too much of a positive impact to the cause of changing the industry to warrant changing it. We understand what it feels like to be told you not getting your full weeks money as you have left the job, or to walk in one day and get told the rate has changed like it or lump it! Who do you turn to when this happens? Solicitors are too expensive, chasing money too time consuming and stressful and threating behaviour likely to get you chucked off site and blacklisted. What if someone was in your corner? Not just anyone either but someone with an army of members, a legal team and a passion for fighting for what’s right!!! We are here, we are ready for the fight and we want you with us.
The age old saying a union is only as strong as it’s members is so true. Without our members we are nothing more that an idea but with numbers with are so strong it beggars belief. Imagine what can be achieved with 1000 electrical workers marching in protest for change. We can achieve the seemingly impossible but we need your support, every single one of you means so much to the union and everyone is an equal in the EWB.
